Symptoms And Signs Of An Anxiety Attack
When it comes to anxiety, it is a problem that most of us do suffer from at some point in our lives. For some it’s simple anxiety because of a current situation or event. For others, anxiety can lead to all kinds of frightening disorders, such as agoraphobia, and can even lead to full on anxiety attacks.
It is important to understand the symptoms of an anxiety attack, and have a general understanding of the issue in general. Having this knowledge will allow you to understand when anxiety become more than just another fearful moment, and it will also help you not to mistake the condition for other physical health issues.
Understanding Anxiety
Most of us know what anxiety feels like. Our heart racing before that public speech, worry about that bill you aren’t sure you can pay, or fear at any host of daily issues we must face. Other than those expected signs though, there are other symptoms of anxiety.
Understanding anxiety indicators are important to differentiate between an outright anxiety attack and just being afraid or feeling overwhelmed. There are both emotional and physical symptoms that must be covered; we have given most of them in this brief guide:
Emotions Associated with Anxiety
Feeling associated with a single cases of anxiety include: apprehension or dread, problems concentrating on the task at hand, being tense or feeling jumpy , anticipation of danger (when unjustified), irritability, and restlessness.
Physical Feelings Associated with Anxiety
Physical signs of a single case of anxiety include: an increase in heart rate or heart palpitations, sweatiness, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, tension, headaches, insomnia or fatigue, diarrhea.
The Symptoms of an Anxiety Attack
An anxiety attack differs from just being anxious. It is more than just being afraid, or overwhelmed. Often an attack will include many of the symptoms we listed in the previous section, and the attack will be intense (and usually quite scary). The symptoms of an anxiety attack include:
A sudden, overwhelming, feeling of panic
Feeling like you are losing your mind
The feeling that you are losing control
Chest pain accompanied by an increase in heart rate
Dizziness to the point of feeling like you will pass out
Hyperventilation
Feeling hot or cold (suddenly and without reason)
Shakiness
Nausea and pain in the stomach
Feeling detached from reality
If you’ve ever experienced an anxiety attack then you already know how frightening they can be. The anxiety attack is usually accompanied by an overwhelming feeling that you are going to die, and with the physical symptoms it almost feels that way.
Overcoming Anxiety
Keeping stress levels low and maintaining good health will generally work to curb anxiety before it develops into a disorder or an attack. You will also want to ensure that your body is healthy. Eat right, sleep regularly, and get exercise daily. You should also work to reduce mental stress. Meditation and self-hypnosis relaxation techniques are the simplest ways to accomplish this.
By simply understanding the symptoms of an anxiety attack, and working to keep anxiety itself to a minimum, you are in turn working towards your own mental health!
