To properly understand and grasp anxiety definition we have opted to gather what we can from different sources a collection of definitions for anxiety.

wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn defined anxiety as follows:

· A relatively permanent state of worry and nervousness occurring in a variety of mental disorders, usually accompanied by compulsive ...

· A vague unpleasant emotion that is experienced in anticipation of some (usually ill-defined) misfortune

We also found different definitions of anxiety at Wikipedia and they go as follows:

· Anxiety is a physiological state characterized by cognitive, somatic, emotional, and behavioral components (Seligman, Walker & Rosenhan, 2001). These components combine to create the feelings that we typically recognize as fear, apprehension, or worry.

·  Concern or solicitude respecting some thing or event, future or uncertain, which disturbs the mind, and keeps it in a state of painful uneasiness; A state of restlessness and agitation, often with general indisposition and a distressing sense of oppression at the epigastrium. --Dunglison

The anxiety definition that we found at www.clevelandclinic.org/health/health-info/docs/3000/3006.asp goes as follows:

· A feeling of apprehension, fear, nervousness or dread accompanied by restlessness or tension.

The simplest and shortest anxiety definition that we found was at www.painaction.com/painaction/Glossary.aspx but we are not sure if it is comprehensive enough. We will let you be the judge of that:

· A state of uneasiness and apprehension, generally about future uncertainties

www.snowdenmentalhealth.com/glossary.mgi provided - in our opinion – one that is relatively easier to understand because of the day-to-day language that it uses and we think that it can be more descriptive:

· When the word anxiety is used to discuss a group of mental illnesses (anxiety disorders), it refers to an unpleasant and overriding inner emotional tension that has not apparent identifiable cause. These disorders are severe enough to interfere with social or occupational functioning.

Although www.asaging.org/cdc/glossary.cfm brings an interesting anxiety definition but the final part of the definition brings more confusion than clarity. Yet we cannot talk about the soundness of the definition:

· Apprehension or uneasiness due to an anticipated danger. Anxiety has both mental and physical components that interact in a manner such that it is often difficult to determine the source or cause.

www.mherc.mb.ca/gloss.html brings a dimension that we already talked about in one of our previous articles regarding anxiety definition:

· Apprehension or uneasiness about an anticipated danger. Anxiety may be a normal reaction to danger or threat, or occur when no such danger exists and cause troubling symptoms.

We have more sources with more definitions, but they do not deviate from the core that the above collection.

In a previous article we have noted that we are ending our focused efforts on researching anxiety definition and we will be moving to anxiety causes. Well, we are going back on our word. We found out there is still material that we need to cover and there is a lot that we can gather for you in this area.

So there is more to come on anxiety definition..
