Whenever we think that we have found all that can be found to cover the understanding of anxiety definition, we find information that makes us go back and revisit our understanding. As much as we want to move on and cover further issues related to anxiety especially what is related to anxiety causes, symptoms and cures, we find that to be able to move forward we need to make sure that our bases are concrete and our understanding of anxiety is solid. What is causing a lot of confusion in understanding anxiety is the relation between anxiety and its synonyms. In previous articles we discussed fear and depression and their relationship with anxiety. We also discussed positive and negative anxiety. In this article we are going again at Fear, we will also look at worry, stress and phobia. What we found about fear confirms our previous understanding and we can have a very good distinction between this term and anxiety. Fear is something that we feel when we are confronted with a sudden, immediate and threatening situation which requires an immediate response. The important thing to note here is the concept of time when we discuss fear. The time span of fear is very short and it is reaction to something immediate and short in time as well. The result whether positive or negative has to be witnessed. If the event prolongs fear as a feeling will be transformed into something else. The process of adaptation has to transform fear. Although adaptation is a positive term but the transformation of fear into something else is not necessarily positive. To be able to understand how anxiety differs from fear, the concept of time establishes the main distinctive factor. Anxiety is activated by our imagination capability. Our mind makes a fast-forward on the current events and if the result reached is negative anxiety is activated. But here we bump with the concept of worry. Worry is a miniature feeling of anxiety. The definition of worry states that it is a result of a continuing problem. Yet the way we see it is that it is the result of a fast-forward effect of current situation. On the result of the current situation is producing either negative uncertainty or a negative definitive result. Worry in its positive nature helps a person produce solutions. In its negative nature the person indulges in the current problem and the creative mind is able to produce more problems as a result of the current situation rather than solutions. If worry persists and its negative nature gets the best of the person then we are well into the definition of Anxiety.
