We have discussed previously some mental conditions and how they can be regarded as either anxiety causes or anxiety types. We can look at the mental conditions as internal anxiety causes. In this article we are going to discuss the external anxiety causes.

What we have found is that there is a smooth link between internal and external anxiety causes. We have finalized our discussion regarding mental conditions with "Stress Disorder." Here we will see that the majority of the external causes are stress related. Here are the external causes:

  • Stress at work
  • Stress from school whether it was regarding grades and general academia related or regarding life at school with class and school mates.
  • Stress in a personal relationship regardless of the type of relationship whether it is a love, friendship or family.
  • Financial stress
  • Stress from an emotional trauma such as the death of a loved one, a natural disaster, victimization by crime, physical abuse or sexual abuse (for example, acute stress disorder or post traumatic stress disorder)
  • Stress from a serious medical illness
  • Side effects of medication
  • Intoxication (being "high" on) with an illicit drug.
  • Withdrawal from an illicit drug, such as opiates (for example, heroin) or from prescription drugs like Vicodin or barbituates
  • Symptoms of a medical illness
  • Lack of oxygen: In circumstances as diverse as high altitude sickness, emphysema, or pulmonary embolism (a blood clot with the vessels of the lung)

Looking at the above we can easily draw a causal chain of anxiety. From the above list we can see that we can draw the causes of stress. Therefore, work,  relationships, money..etc. cause stress. Stress causes Anxiety. Yet we should not forget that the above list has a direct link to anxiety. Us trying to establish a causal chain is only a method of trying to better understand anxiety causes. We have to remember that the above causes are discussed as direct causes of anxiety.

Since the causes of stress play a major role here we must bring the definition that we arrived at in our last article so as to keep it fresh in our minds.

"Stress in its negative term can be described as a feeling of responsibility overload. We can see all the above causes are triggered by a certain situation which happens at a certain moment in time. While stress is mostly triggered by realizing a long term circumstance and our perception that we might not be able to uphold the responsibilities for a prolonged time. The perception will also install the reality that we cannot escape the responsibility. When stress reaches a certain threshold it can turn into anxiety."
