When we first tapped into the area of anxiety causes we looked at those causes as internal and external factors. In this article we are going study a different categorization to anxiety causes. In our view this sheds more light into the topic as the borders between on category and the other are clearer.

This categorization involves three sections which are described as three potential causes to developing anxiety, and have broken them down into; brain chemistry, heredity, and life experiences.

In this article we are only going to study the first of these anxiety causes categories which is Brain Chemistry.

Brain Chemistry

Brain chemistry is also given the name "Chemical Imbalance." It is said that experts believe that brain chemistry plays a part in triggering anxiety disorders and accordingly is considered as one of the main categories of anxiety causes. This is why individuals with symptoms of anxiety disorders are usually prescribed medications so as to change the chemicals of the brain. Personally I am very skeptical about this area. I am not disagreeing with the fact the brain chemistry plays a part in causing anxiety, it is the fact that medication is the first thing that doctors opt for as an anxiety remedy.

I believe that medication should be the last resort and only conducted when enough proof has been gathered to confirm that what causes anxiety is for sure Brain Chemistry or Chemical Imbalance.

Let us try to understand what really happens when the cause of anxiety is a chemical imbalance. In the brain there are things called Neurotransmitters. The Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers. Some of those Neurotransmitters are responsible for regulating thought and feeling. When these Neurotransmitters suffer a chemical imbalance the messages that they send become distorted and accordingly affect negatively the areas that they are responsible for; in this case feeling and thought. Two of the primary neurotransmitters that affect thought and feeling are serotonin and dopamine. When these chemicals have an imbalance, one can feel depressed or anxious.

There is also scientific evidence that tells us that anxiety related problems such as stress, panic, and exaggerated fears are the result of an imbalance between the right and left hemispheres of the brain. This evidence is being studied through positron emission tomography or (PET) scans.

I need to stress here that any person should insist that enough evidence is gathered to prove that the anxiety cause that is being dealt with is Brain Chemistry before he/she is convinced to overcome anxiety through medication.

In our future research we will try to research if such a chemical imbalances can be cured through herbal or any other natural remedies.

We hope that you found this article useful. In the following articles we are going to discuss the other anxiety causes categories which are heredity, and life experiences.
